How To Start Your Spiritual Journey

A spiritual journey is a journey you go on to try to discover who you are on soul level. The purpose of a spiritual journey it to become more aware of yourself, aware of the world and have an understanding of how you came to be the person that you are.

It’s about Leaving behind preconceived notions, beliefs, & discovering emotions that were hidden. In this post I will teach you how you can start your spiritual journey.

Set Spiritual Goals

You may not know how you will get to where you are going, but you have to set a goal in order to know that you have arrived. That is a mouthful, I know. Well, you need to set spiritual goals to keep yourself on track. So whether your goal is to meditate every day or journal in the AM before work, or simply to take deep breaths and notice your posture, this spiritual journey is about you.

I made a 90 day alignment calendar to help me stay on track when ever I wanted to be consistent with a practice. You can download that 90 day calendar here. Since it’s up to 90 days, you can break those days into 30. Example 30 days of morning meditation, 30 days of healthy eating, 30 days of journaling. How ever way you want to use it.

Monitor Your Thoughts and Emotions

Keeping up with thoughts and emotions may be a little hard to do, since a lot of the thoughts are coming from our unconscious mind, however they are big indicators of how we perceive the world. I recommend getting a small notebook or even notes app on your phone and documenting how you feel and any thoughts associated with those feelings that are showing up for you.

This simple practice will do 2 things, allow you to become more aware of what you are thinking and the thoughts that are coming up, simply because you have to be conscious to write them down. And 2, when done often you will be able to change the way you think, even correct yourself when a negative thought comes up, and also teach you where an emotion is stemming from.

I have a 30 day Limiting Beliefs Journal that can help you with this step. You can get that 30 day Journal here.

Prioritize Yourself

A lot to people are not going to understand this work that you are doing, but again you are doing this for you. Make sure you keep strong boundaries with people and things that don’t support this new mental framework that you are building. Also, establish boundaries with yourself. If you say you are going to do something, or not do something.. stick with it.

Introduce Spiritual Practices To Assist You

Start a different kind of meditations, learn different ways to bring mindfulness to the body, assisting you in connecting with your temple. Visit sacred places or sign up for retreats so you can be around like minded individuals. Use automatic writing, tarot, crystals to assist you in your spiritual journey.

Look For Community Or Spiritual Mentors

There’s so many spiritual communities now in the world of social media, the only thing I would warn you is to use your discernment when selecting a group to follow or to just engage with. See if the group is thinking for themselves, allowing you to base your opinion on things. See what is the belief system of the mentor leading the group or the group members, are they aligned with a spiritual practice and belief you feel comfortable with?

Answering these simple questions and being very selective of where you give your time and energy will save you a lot of confusion down the road. If in person is not your thing, there’s different facebook groups, podcast and YouTube videos you can follow.

P.s.

Beginning a spiritual journey is not as easy as it may sound, it requires a lot of dedication and consistency in order to form new habit and achieve the goal of obtaining inner peace. With the steps I detailed here, I’m sure you will be able to begin your spiritual journey.
